10 ways to reuse egg cartons

In Malaysia the egg cartons can be plastic or cardboard. I will indicate which type of carton you can use for my ideas.

1. Reuse them!

In Australia I have a friend who sells the eggs his chickens lay at his work place. He is always looking for egg cartons to take them in. So if you befriend someone who has chickens ( or you decide to get some yourself) you can reuse them. (plastic and cardboard)

2. Use them as seedling trays

You can place some potting mix or compost in the tray and then plant some seeds in each cup of the carton. make sure that you water them properly and they will sprout. When the seeds are sprouted you can separate each cup and plant them cup and all. As the cartons will break down over time. (cardboard)

3. Use the egg cartons to hold paint ie as a pallette

You could use the cartons to hold paint for children's finger painting or for poster painting. When you have finished you can just throw it away or you could close it up and allow it to dry if it is water based paint you could rehydrate it later. (plastic)

4. Use them to transport delicate items for a picnic.

The design of egg cartons is unusual in that it will separate items and keep them protected use this to transport delicate fruit or small pastries to a picnic. (cardboard/plastic)

5. Use them to store beads

if you have many different types of beads then you can keep them separated by placing them in different places in the egg carton.

6. Soundproof a room

sound proofing looks a lot like egg cartons! glue some to the walls and see if they really work. (plastic/cardboard)

7. Use them in a child's art project

egg cartons make great Scales for animals. Each egg cup in the egg carton makes a great eye! (plastic/cardboard)

8. Use them to make unusual ice cubes/jellies

Fill them up with water or juice or jelly and make some wacky ice cubes or jellies (plastic)

9. Use them as a mulch

Use the chopped up remains as a mulch in your garden (Cardboard)

10. Use it to stop the soil coming out of your plant pot

place a flattened egg carton in the bottom of a plant pot to stop the soil from leaking out and as a reservoir for water. (cardboard)

I have two more uses to add to your great list:

Separate different sized nuts and bolts.

Storage and presentation of golf balls I collect from around the world.

Interesting Hub...Thanks
